Horse riding camp started with the high wire and flying fox challenge at Treetops Adventure Park, Abbotsbury. Even the rain didn't dampen the enthusiasm of students (and staff)! Then it was on the bus to Woolworths at Katoomba for the start of the Masterchef Challenge. With a budget of $5 a head each group needed to buy for and then cook and serve a two course meal with the theme of "Birthday and Childhood Memories" in honour of Mrs Henderson's birthday. The 26 students and six staff stayed at Mountains Christian College in Blackheath and enjoyed their newly completed hospitality kitchen. Dinners included gnocchi, nachos, chicken nuggets, scrolls and pizza. Desserts included fairy bread, apple pie, brownies, cake, ice-cream, spiders and marshmallows.
The theme for the camp was Philippians 2. We looked at what it means to be shining like stars and how our actions and relationships are a means of showing
Christ's love to others.
Day Two was spent at Centennial Glen Stables. Students brushed horses, cleaned hooves, saddled and then did a trail ride. After lunch it was another trail
ride in the beautiful Kanimbla Valley. At the end of the day students removed saddles, brushed and fed the horses. After dinner it was games night
(with some light graffiti photography).
Day Three students formed two groups alternating between a bush walk and horse riding with both groups meeting at Megalong Tea Rooms where they swapped over activities. Dinner was pizzas before watching the movie Secretariat about a famous racing horse in USA.
Day Four our students joined with Year 8 students from the College to cook and prepare morning tea for the Mountains Christian College staff which was much appreciated. Then it was off to the Lolly Shop at Leura, McDonalds at Blaxland and return to school.
Thank you to the teachers and parents Mrs Butler, Mrs O'Sullivan, Mrs Henderson, Mrs Engelbrecht, Mrs Kilby and Mr Pierson. Thanks to Sarah Coillet, Mrs Kilby and Mr Pierson for photos.
The video gives you an idea of what students experienced at Treetops.
