The founders of Covenant Christian School wanted an education for their children which was clearly and explicitly Christian.
Covenant Christian School was founded over 45 years ago by Christian parents who passionately believed that parents are responsible for bringing up their children in the training and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Their vision was a school that provided a comprehensive education, taught to a high standard by Christian teachers, in which Christ was recognised as Lord of all. This education would not only prepare students for future study or work, but for life itself.
From a modest start to a thriving, Christ-centred community, Covenant Christian School has come a long way. The founders had a vision for an authentic Christian school, offering an academically rigorous education taught through the lens of the Bible. Today, although the school is larger and very well-equipped, their vision lives on through a dedicated Board, School Association, staff and community united in the original vision and mission.
In 1964, a dedicated group of committed Christians recognised the value of a Christian education for their children. The importance of a biblically based education prompted them to form The Association as a first step toward starting our school.
After years of praying, hard work, fundraising and planning, Covenant Christian School was opened in May 1978 at St Paul's Anglican Church in Terrey Hills. Initially there was only one teacher and 19 children from Kindergarten to Year 5.
In 1978 the founders identified an ideal location in Belrose where Covenant is still located today. A year later, Covenant’s Primary school children were moved into a cottage on the new site, while Infants students remained in Terrey Hills.
By 1980, all students from Kindergarten to Year 7 were located at Belrose. In 1983, the first Year 10 School Certificate exams were conducted and in 1986, the first Higher School Certificate was completed.
By 1999, it was clear that more land was required to support the needs of the growing Covenant student population. The land adjoining the school property was purchased to enable this growth.
The new millennium brought great change to Covenant with developments such as the opening of the new school hall in 2002, the establishment of a Preschool on site in 2006 and the creation of the Covenant Dance Academy in 2010.
Since 2010 Covenant has thrived; the many new facilities provide for and reflect the growth of our community, as we work together under our Vision and Mission.
We have much to be thankful for as we seek to faithfully teach and nurture our students, and to steward all God has provided. Today our school community holds to our Vision and Mission to assist parents in the nurture of their children, by equipping them to live for God's glory.
